CBI officers visit police firing locations

ThoothukudiCBI officers on Sunday continued their investigation into the anti-Sterlite agitation, in which 13 people were killed during police firing. A team of officers, led by Superintendent of Police A. Saravanan and Deputy Superintendent of Police R. Ravi, inspected various locations where firing took place, including the Collectorate, FCI godown roundabout, Third Mile, Anna Nagar and Threspuram. The team also questioned officials including Tahsildar and Deputy Tahsildar, who are complainants in the cases, sources said. On Saturday, the team visited SIPCOT, North and South police stations, where cases were registered following the violence, and inspected various documents related to the incident. After the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court ordered that the CBI take over the investigation, the CB-CID transferred various cases related to the incident to the CBI on October 8, including those against members of various organisations who had allegedly instigated the protests.

Inspector Thirumalai of Pudukottai police station accompanied them. “The team would be visiting various spots and collecting [police] records. We will be in Thoothukudi for 2-3 days,” said an official. The team also questioned officials including Tahsildar and Deputy Tahsildar, who are complainants in the cases, sources said.
