Owner of a bar in Madurai arrested for death of two workers
- | Saturday | 23rd September, 2017
Owner of the recently-closed ‘welfare club’ serving liquor on Kuruvikkaran Salai was arrested by the city police on Friday in connection with the death of two workers in a wall collapse the previous day. While the other two were reportedly absconding, police said that Balachandran was arrested on Friday. The club was sealed in August as per directive of Madurai Bench of Madras High Court for operating in violation of its licence conditions. Balachandran unsuccessfully contested the 2016 Assembly election from Madurai South constituency as DMK candidate. The incident occurred when the plot adjacent to the club, which is under renovation, was being cleaned up by the earthmover engaged by the club.
