Karnataka: 2 die after wall collapses due to rain in Dakshina Kannada

MANGALURU: A woman and her grandson died after a wall collapsed on them following heavy rain . The people here are primarily dependent on the hanging bridge for traversing after the Mullarapatna bridge across river Phalguni collapsed bridge last week.The incessant rain also saw river Nethravati flow with full intensity. Educational institutes in Bantwal and Mangaluru taluks, however, were allowed to take a call on whether to conduct classes or not. Several institutes, including PU colleges in Mangaluru, declared holiday foreseeing heavy rainfall. A retaining wall on the river located adjacent to the Thumbay dam slid partially causing panic.The district administration declared holiday for schools across Moodbidri, Sullia, Puttur, Belthangady and Uppinangadi.
