Mayor seeks govt. funds for development projects

The Mayor also sought ?29 crore from the government for building a railway overpass on Kulai Kana Road and another one at Surathkal-MRPL Road. He requested the Minister to sanction ?20 crore to build an overpass at the Mahakalipadpu railway crossing. He also requested the government to release ?49 crore to repair the roads and storm-water drains damaged in heavy rains. In a memorandum submitted to the Minister, the Mayor said that if the retaining wall was not rebuilt, the pumping station, supplying drinking water to the city adjacent to the river, would be in danger. The corporation does not have enough money to rebuild it, he said. He requested the Minister to sanction ?20 crore to build an overpass at the Mahakalipadpu railway crossing. The overpass is required as the Morgan’s Gate-Jeppinamogaru Road connects to National Highway 66. The Mayor also sought ?29 crore from the government for building a railway overpass on Kulai Kana Road and another one at Surathkal-MRPL Road. He said Konkan Railway Corporation Ltd. has asked the corporation to deposit ?11.42 crore for building the overpass on Kulai Kana Road and ?17.4 crore for the overpass on Surathkal-MRPL Road. Mr. Bhaskar said that as the corporation is facing a dearth of funds, the government would have to sanction funds. Market complex The Mayor said the State government has given technical approval to build a modern market-cum-commercial complex at Kankanady at an estimated cost of ?46.5 crore. But the authorities were still awaiting administrative approval from the government. He requested the Minister to do the needful. He also requested the government to release ?49 crore to repair the roads and storm-water drains damaged in heavy rains. The roads have to be repaired keeping in mind festivals such as Krishnastami, Ganesha Chathurti, and Deepavali, during which processions will be taken out in the city.
