Muda Adalat planned to solve citizens’ woes

Mangaluru: Mangaluru Urban Development Authority (Muda) will conduct Muda Adalat to solve grievances of citizens with regard to various applications for approvals on August 4.The main purpose of holding an adalat is to listen to the grievances of citizens, who have applied for approvals for single site approvals, layout plans and other related works. The city corporation may take certain decisions at the council itself. Minister for urban development and housing U T Khader said officials may solve problems and clear some of the files on the spot during the adalat. “We have already discussed about various issues people in Mangaluru are facing due to delay in obtaining approvals from Muda. The mayor said most of the roads are damaged and it may require at least Rs 15 crore to develop them.

Minister for urban development and housing U T Khader said officials may solve problems and clear some of the files on the spot during the adalat. “We have already discussed about various issues people in Mangaluru are facing due to delay in obtaining approvals from Muda. The adalat will be attended by elected representatives and Muda officials,” said Khader at a review meeting held at Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) on Tuesday.The minister said the department will convene a meeting to discuss all the Smart City projects in Bengaluru on Wednesday. Consultants and officials will attend the meeting and discuss on the progress of Smart city projects.Earlier, mayor K Bhaskar Moily urged the state government to release Rs 12 crore to construct a retaining wall that had collapsed following heavy rain near the dam at Thumbe. The mayor said most of the roads are damaged and it may require at least Rs 15 crore to develop them. Meanwhile, it may require Rs 100 crore for widening the road and construction of an over bridge across railway line at Mahakalipadpu. The government has given administrative approval for Kankanady Market complex to be taken up at a cost of Rs 46.50 crore, he said and added that the proposal needs to be taken up in the cabinet meeting for approval.The minister said, “The aim of the government is to develop Mangaluru with a far-sighted planning. The city corporation may take certain decisions at the council itself. Meanwhile, we will pursue those projects that need cabinet approval.” Water bill: Consumers owe Rs 16.42 croreBelieve it, there are 144 consumers, including private educational institutions, KSRTC, Railways, DKMUL and individuals, who owe more than Rs 1 lakh to the city corporation towards pending bills of the water supplied.When executive Engineer Linge Gowda said that consumers owe Rs 16.42 crore to the city corporation, the minister directed officials to make revenue collection mechanism more efficient.MCC commissioner Mohammed Nazeer said Rs 34.50 crore was collected as water bill in 2015-16, Rs 33.13 crore in 2016-17. While there are 95,000 water connections in the city corporation jurisdiction, water bills are being issued directly by the Multi-purpose Workers (MPW) of the MCC, he said.Regarding property tax collection, revenue officials said that around 8,000 properties in the city have to pay double tax for not having permanent door numbers. However, only 5,000 property owners pay the double tax. Irked over this, the minister directed the officials to issue notices to all the tax defaulters and collect the revenue dues.
