Doctors suspect Shiroor Mutt Seer Laxmivara Teertha died due to poisoning

MANGALURU: Doctors at Kasturba Hospital, Manipal, suspect that Shiroor Mutt Seer Laxmivara Teertha may have been poisoned.The doctors who treated the Seer said he died due to multiple organ failure.Dr Avinash Shetty, Medical Superintendent, Kasturba Hospitals, Manipal, said the Seer was admitted to the ICU at 1am of Wednesday. "When he was brought to the hospital, his condition was critical with gastrointestinal bleeding and low blood pressure. "The Udupi police have been informed about this development and a post mortem is being conducted.After the post mortem, the body will be taken to Sri Krishna Mutt for conducting rituals associated with the Mutt, therafter the body will be taken to Shiroor Mutt, 20 km from Udupi, for final rites. He was immediately rushed to ICU and was put on mechanical breather and dialysis was also started. "Dr Shivashankar Bhat, who treated the Seer, said,"His blood work revealed he may have been poisoned, hence as per the norm, we have informed the police and as per their direction we have sent the body for post mortem.
