MANGALURU: Was Sri Lakshmivara Theertha of Shiroor Mutt involved in money-lending? This question follows a video clip which has gone viral on social media after his death.The seer reportedly burnt his fingers as two entrepreneurs, who he identifies in the video as his disciples, allegedly short-changed him to the tune of Rs 26 crore with one of them not returning Rs 14 crore.The video show the seer explaining his predicament to a 'daiva'(demi god) at a Bhoota Kola/ aradhane organised at his moola mutt a few months ago. Every year, the seer organises Bhoota Kola at the mutt.In the video clip lasting 3 minutes, the seer is seen speaking about his hardship to Daivas - Kodamanitaya and Koti-Chennaiah. When Daivas ask what he wants, the seer replies says two disciples allegedly cheated him of Rs 26 crore. He had given the money in good faith but they didn't return it. According to sources, the two entrepreneurs, who the seer says are from Mumbai and have business links, including real estate, with the seer. Police said this will be established by a probe.Meanwhile, in another video, which also has gone viral, people alleged that the seer had disrespected Daivas during Nemostava at Padubidri. The video was captured during the annual family Nemostava at Padubidri on January 2018.It is alleged that seer the had made a disrespectful gesture before the Daiva and it had embarrassed people who had invited him to the ceremony. The daiva performer had said the seer's behaviour had hurt him. However, the family which had invited the seer to the ceremony, has requested people not to conclude anyt hing from the video clip.
