Siddalingaswamy more-in The Supreme Court permitting the Koppal Institute of Medical Science (KIMS) to admit students for the first year for 2018-19 has come as a great relief to the institution and also to students. It may be mentioned here that shortage of teaching staff, lack of infrastructure facilities, including teaching halls among other things, were said to be the main observations by the Medical Council of India (MCI) during its last inspection and it had recommended to the Union Health Ministry to deny permission for admission for the first year of the fourth batch. After the Ministry declined permission, the institute approched the Karnataka HC and later the SC and got relief. S.M. Malapure, Director of KIMS, told The Hindu that one round of recruitment of teaching staff had been completed and orders would be issued shortly. Another round of walk-in interviews, if necessary, would also be called to fill up the vacant seats. In addition, steps were being taken to remove other deficiencies pointed out by the MCI. “We have requested the Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA) to include the institute for allotment of seats. We will also take all necessary steps to comply and rectify the observations made by MCI,” he said. The permission for admission will be a boon for students of Hyderabad Karnatak region as around 80% of the seats will be reserved for them.
