The roof of a house was blown away during the windstorm at Pernankila village in Udupi district on Monday. more-in Nearly 40-50 houses were damaged and roofs of many got blown away due to a windstorm at Pernankila village in Kaup taluk in Udupi district on Monday. The major damage to houses took place at Jaddu, Janata Nagar and Varvady areas in Pernankila village. The windstorm hit the area at around 2.45 p.m. when tiles and tin sheets of houses got blown away. Several jackfruit and mango trees and electricity poles were uprooted in the village. The damage done due to the windstorm had been estimated at around ? 5 lakh, according to Village Accountant Sunil. Lalaji Mendon, Kaup MLA, visited the spot and inspected the damage. Meanwhile, P. Parshwanath, Deputy Director of Fisheries, said that a deep sea trawler boat, named Vishwas, which had eight fishermen from Kaup-Kaipunjal, was stranded in the sea about 70 miles off Surathkal coast due to engine failure. “We have informed the Coast Guard about it,” he said.
