Shiradi Block: Passengers forced to remain in vehicles for over 20 hours

Hundreds of passengers, who boarded Bengaluru – Mangaluru buses in the evening on Monday reached Mangaluru by 4pm on Tuesday forcing them to remain in bus for over 20 hours. Passengers including women and children were forced to stay without food and could not attend nature’s call. Normally, buses from Bengaluru reach Mangaluru within eight hours.Landslide was reported at more than five places in Gundya too. “Our bus departed from Bengaluru at 8pm on Monday and by 4am on Tuesday our journey discontinued at Sakleshpur since Shiradi ghat was closed. We have been insisting our driver to divert the bus via Charmady ghat.

MANGALURU: Heavy rain on Monday and Tuesday forced passengers travelling from Bengaluru to Mangaluru on board KSRTC and private buses to remain "under house arrest" like situation in their vehicles at Maranahalli and Sakleshpur agonizingly for over 12 hours.In fact, traffic on Bengaluru – Mangaluru NH 75 was paralysed after the road stretch was blocked due to landslide and uprooting of trees at Doddathople near Maranahalli and Udane near Shiradi ghat. Hundreds of passengers, who boarded Bengaluru – Mangaluru buses in the evening on Monday reached Mangaluru by 4pm on Tuesday forcing them to remain in bus for over 20 hours. Normally, buses from Bengaluru reach Mangaluru within eight hours.Landslide was reported at more than five places in Gundya too. While buses from Bengaluru to Mangaluru were stopped at Maranahalli in Sakleshpur, chaos prevailed when passengers insisted drivers to divert buses via Charmadi.Dayanand Hegde, a passenger, told TOI that he was forced to stay in bus from 4am to 4pm at Sakleshpur. “Our bus departed from Bengaluru at 8pm on Monday and by 4am on Tuesday our journey discontinued at Sakleshpur since Shiradi ghat was closed. Passengers including women and children were forced to stay without food and could not attend nature’s call. We have been insisting our driver to divert the bus via Charmady ghat. However, they refused to pay heed to our requests,” he said.
