more-in The Shiroor Shri Abhimanigala Samiti will organise a public condolence programme and a silent procession on Saturday to condole the death of Lakshmivara Tirtha Swami of Shiroor Mutt, who died here on July 19. Addressing presspersons here on Thursday, Radhakrishna Shetty, president of samiti, said that the rituals which should have been held on the 13th day after the Shiroor seer’s death, were yet to be held at the moola mutt in Shiroor (The moola mutt is still under the police custody for investigations). During his Paryayas and also otherwise, the Shiroor seer had promoted and encouraged arts and artistes. He encouraged and held competitions for the ‘Huli Vesha’ groups. He donated generously to these groups. He helped the Ganeshotsava Samitis during the Ganesh Chaturthi festival here. The samiti will hold a condolence meeting at the Mathura Chatra building from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. on August 18. This would be followed by a silent procession on the Car Street. The procession would culminate in front of the Shiroor Mutt. The Samiti wanted to hold the condolence meeting at the Shiroor Mutt, but it was not available. Ishavittaladas Swami of Kemar Mutt, Santoshguruji of Barkur Sansthan, and Shiroor seer’s advocate Ravikiran Murudeshwar would participate in the condolence meeting. The Samiti would have liked the Pejawar seer and Sode seer to participate in the meeting, but they were observing ‘Chaturmasya’ in other towns. The Samiti would try to approach the seers available in the town and seek their cooperation, he said. To a query, Mr. Shetty said that filing of complaint in the Shiroor seer’s death case would have to be done by his kin. It could not be done by the Samiti, he said. The “huli vesha” competitions and prizes for them were being organized for the “huli vesha” groups by another devotee of Shiroor seer, Ranjan Kalkura, and the samiti would extend its cooperation to him, Mr. Shetty said.
