Police had sent the couple home after counselling. On Sunday night, Satish SG travelled 20km on his bike with the severed head in a bag to reach Ajjampura polie station. “At first, no one believed him. But then he opened the bag. He was tired and thirsty and asked for a glass of water. He drank and said he was surrendering, narrating how he committed the crime,” a police officer said.Police said Satish and Roopa, 25, married in 2012 after falling in love. “Villagers had opposed it as the two belonged to different castes,” recalled SP Annamalai. “Police then helped them get married. Satish was a truck driver and ran a chicken stall.”The couple has a six-year-old son and a three-year-old daughter. On Sunday, the couple had lunch together at the chicken stall. Roopa left, saying she was heading home. Some time later, Satish called her repeatedly but she did not pick up her phone. Suspecting something was wrong, Satish rushed home but she wasn’t there. He found her near a eucalyptus plantation talking to a youth and became suspicious. He rushed back to the stall and picked up a machete to kill the youth. When Roopa tried to stop him, Satish strangled her to death using the saree she was wearing. Still fuming, he chopped off her head.
