Mangaluru: Stolen cables meant for railway electrification seized; 5 detained

MANGALURU: The city police on Monday detained five people in connection with the theft of electric cables that were stored at Kenjaru Mudai Mutt for the electrification of railway line.Police have identified the accused as Mohammed Arif, 28, a resident of Kinnigoli, Ramlan Iddeen alias Kamal, 20, from Bajpe, Abdul Hameed alias Adramonu, 24, a resident of Tenka Ekkaru village, Azharuddin, 23, from Kalavar and Mohammed Hakeem, 21, from Kenjar.Police said cables worth Rs 2 lakh and a Maruti Omni van used in the alleged crime has been recovered.Police said the accused are habitual offenders.A security guard named Leslie Vegas had filed a complaint at the Bajpe police station regarding the theft.
