MANGALURU: Welcoming pro-activeness of Karnataka High Court in directing the government to fill all potholes in Bengaluru in 24-hours, MLC S L Bhoje Gowda on Thursday appealed to Dinesh Maheshwari , chief justice of Karnataka High Court to show same zeal in dealing with pendency. Judicial infrastructure including quarters for judges, court rooms and staff for these courts has been addressed to a large extent. “If the government fails to maintain quality in the process of complying with the CJs directive, the whole purpose is defeated,” he said adding the courts should also see the practicality of their orders when they give one. “I welcome the CJs directive (on potholes) as an ordinary citizen as well,” the MLC said.Asserting that the governments over the years have met most of the infrastructure and staffing demands placed before it by the judiciary, Bhoje Gowda said the judiciary cannot complain about it as a reason for pendency. Noting that the projects are taken up using public and not personal funds, he said it is not correct on part of MPs/MLAs to use their pictures on these projects.

While CJs concern over pot-hole ridden roads is laudable, it is also a matter of fact that people are suffering from delay in justice delivery system, he noted.Bhoje Gowda, also member of Karnataka Bar Council told reporters that the tough direction of CJ, while a welcome step is impractical. Judicial infrastructure including quarters for judges, court rooms and staff for these courts has been addressed to a large extent. Government is also alive to the need to appoint judges to these courts and is working on it, he said. The bar council and lawyers have time and again impressed on the government and even the apex court to deal with the issue of shortage of judges and resorted to protest in this regard, he said. To a question on demand for a circuit bench of the high court in Mangaluru, Bhoje Gowda said he will propose about it to CM H D Kumaraswamy if there is a case for it and also go by past representation of the local bar association in this regard. On another directive of HC in ordering crackdown on flex banners, Bhoje Gowda said he will welcome a similar directive by the HC and government if they stopped practice by elected representatives to use their pictures on works executed under their local area development funds. Noting that the projects are taken up using public and not personal funds, he said it is not correct on part of MPs/MLAs to use their pictures on these projects.
