MCC to increase water storage level from today

MANGALURU: The Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) has decided to increase the water storage level in Thumbe dam to six metres from Sunday.Currently, the water storage level in the new dam at Thumbe in Bantwal taluk, which was commissioned in December 2016, is limited to five metres against the maximum height of 11 metres.However, considering the increase in the water consumption and in view of the possibility of a dry summer , the city corporation has decided to increase the water storage level from five metres to six metres.Accordingly, the shutters will be raised to six metres from Sunday, and the city corporation has warned people residing on the banks of the river to be cautious.“Action is being taken to increase the storage level of Thumbe dam to six metres, so that the city will not face a water crisis in the summer. The decision was taken based on the directions of deputy commissioner S Sasikanth Senthil. People residing on the banks near the dam should take precautions regarding their property,” stated a release.Meanwhile, officials said the MCC has been paying rent for the land submerged, since the commissioning of the new dam.
