MANGALURU: With an increase in mobile towers near educational institutions, residential and other buildings turning a menace, the state government is mulling to have tough rules to regulate it, said U T Khader , minister for urban development and housing Addressing the media here on Saturday, he said that a draft of the same is ready, and will be notified after final discussion.Explaining why they are mulling over having tougher rules, Khader said that there is no policy on mobile towers and other frequency towers to keep a watch on their activities.“Currently, they have come up in all places possible, be it near educational institutions, residential areas and densely populated areas. We have seen that despite objections from local bodies, installation of mobile towers cannot be stopped, as there are no stringent rules,” Khader said, adding that cellphones have become an integral part of one’s life, and it requires mobile towers.On mobile and other towers mushrooming in commercial buildings in the city and other places, Khader pointed out that new regulation will make sure whether owners wants to add such a facility or not. If a mobile tower is installed after the completion of the building, the owner has to furnish details about the same.Meanwhile, the government will restrict such towers near education institutions, residential areas and also places where there is a high density of population.Sampaje ghat road which was battered by incessant rains will be throw open to the public after a month. Khader said that 80 per cent of road restoration is over for the same, and that the final phase of the work was in progress.“We have completed the work on a war-footing,” he said.Commenting on Shiradi Ghat, which was opened to heavy commercial vehicles a few days ago, he asked motorists to follow lane discipline in order to avoid traffic pileups and accidents.
