Mangaluru: Gram panchayat member splashes hot water on RTI activist

MANGALURU: A woman gram panchayat member splashed hot water on an RTI activist after he exposed off an irregularity in the construction of her house under a government housing scheme, in Ujire, here on Tuesday. When the team arrived at her house in Ujire, Vinutha splashed hot water on Bhat. The complaint files had reached Belthangady taluk office for enquiry.On Tuesday, executive officer, case worker and Bhat had gone to Vinutha’s house for a spot inspection. He was rushed to a private hospital.Belthangady police said they would book the accused under Indian Penal Code 324 for voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means. The victim, identified as Balasubramanya Bhat (40), is a resident of Ujire and is currently undergoing treatment at a private hospital for burn injuries.According to police, the victim had filed a complaint against gram panchayat member Vinutha for not constructing her house as per Housing Scheme rules.
