Coast Guard West region chief reviews coastal security in Karnataka

MANGALURU: With a focus on infrastructure development and administration in Karnataka , Commander, Coast Guard region (West) is on a two-day visit to its District Headquarters 3.V D Chafekar, Commander, Coast Guard region (West) reviewed Indian Coast Guard’s response and preparedness for effective coastal security mechanism in Karnataka on Tuesday, DIG S S Dasila, commander, Coast Guard Karnataka, said.Priorities of Chafekar, the Flag Officer, included strengthening the coastal security approach through co-ordination with various central and state law enforcement and maritime agencies and to make the seas safe for the seafarers on the West coast.During the visit, Chafekar interacted with Coast Guard officers and men and visited ICG assets in the city, including New Mangalore Port and took stock of the situation and showed path for improvement.IG Chafekar also expressed satisfaction over the recent search and rescue (SAR) services rendered by Coast Guard in the given area of responsibility that resulted into saving 189 lives in this current calendar year.He also expressed satisfaction over the progress made in land acquisition for Coast Guard project, infrastructure development and effective liaison with state, district administration, police, customs, fisheries and stake holders in Karnataka.
