Udupi: No case of Kyasanur Forest Disease (KFD) has reported in the district. However, the district administration and the health department are taking necessary precautions to control the infection from spreading through dead monkeys Taluk-level meetings are being conducted by the Udupi tahsildar. Through the meetings, complete information about KFD is been given to the stakeholders in the departments of health, forest and veterinary (animal husbandry) in all taluks of the district. It has also been decided to create awareness among the public to bring to the notice of the officials if they come across dead monkeys.Meanwhile, officials have sent samples of the dead monkeys to Shivamogga after post-mortem. The carcass will be cremated, and disinfectants will be sprayed in 50-metre radius.Some cases are being closely watched, even though no positive case is reported in the district yet. In suspected cases, blood samples are sent for further testing. Sensitization programme is being held for medical practitioners and ASHA staff working at health centres. Such programmes are being organised at the village level too.Treatment at Manipal hospitalNinety-two suspected KFD cases reported from villages in around Sagar taluk of Shivamogga district are being treated at Kasturba Hospital in Manipal. Of these, 31 are positive while 51 are negative cases. The rest 10 are awaiting reports. Already, 65 patients have been discharged after treatment, while 27 are still being treated at the hospital.
