DHARMASTHALA: Chief minister H D Kumaraswamy has still not forgotten the June 27, 2011 brush with Lord Manjunatha, presiding deity of Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala thanks to a dare by then CM B S Yeddyurappa. Instead he had stuck to a prepared statement which he read out after coming out of the sanctum sanctorum. He (Lord Manjunatha) sees everything silently and gives people their just rewards, a fact that Yeddyurappa learnt the hard way when he was forced to step down as CM within a month after ‘aane pramana’ even after Constitutional agencies and institutions cleared him of any wrong doing,” Kumaraswamy added.Incidentally, Yeddyurappa on that rainy June day more than seven years ago had refrained from answering any questions from the media. The week preceding June 27 saw Yeddyurappa dare his bete noire Kumaraswamy come for an ‘aane pramana’ before the presiding deity at Dharmasthala on charges that former sought political rapprochement with the latter.Recalling this tryst with divinity with the two leaders agreeing to take a vow on the Lord on who among them was telling the truth, Kumaraswamy said, “We politicians, including myself have made mistakes in the past (with aane pramana ) with regard to political issues.” Noting that he cannot forget that incident, Kumaraswamy said, if one trifled with divinity, the Lord would give people their just rewards irrespective of one’s social status.“I have learnt a personal lesson from that incident and will not dare resort to any falsehood in the Kshetra that is abode of Lord Manjunatha. Yeddyurappa had said, “I have come here after seeking darshan and have sought Lord Manjunatha’s blessings for all as well sought his divine grace for the all-round development of the state.”Briefly dwelling on reasons for backing down from the divine challenge that he had made through a paper advertisement, Yeddyurappa had then said, “I have acted on the advise given by various religious leaders including seers of Pejavar, (now late) Siddaganga, Suttur and Taralabalu maths, and pancha peeta,” he had said adding direction given by (then) BJP national president Nitin Gadkari to back down (from the oath) was sacrosanct.
