Mangaluru: As many as 12 people in Kuchugudde village in Gurupura gram panchayat in Mangaluru taluk have been hospitalised due to typhoid in the past 45 days.Following this, officials from the health department visited the village and created awareness among residents to take precautions against the disease. According to sources, there are nearly 40 houses in Kachugudde where people are not getting water for drinking and other purposes. A water tank in the area has not been maintained well, and it has not been covered properly. Villagers say that people are forced to use contaminated water as there is no filtering process available. They say that this might be the reason for the spread of the disease in the area.“We have submitted complaints to the gram panchayat officials several times. However, they did not take up initiatives to provide potable drinking water and other infrastructure,” a villager alleged.Meanwhile, officials of the health department visited the village on Thursday and directed officials of the gram panchayat to take precautions. They directed the gram panchayat to keep water resources clean and emphasised that water be supplied after proper filtering is done.SDPI Addooru unit members visited the village and collected details from villagers. SDPI unit president A K Musthafa said people in the village are angry with the development. “Residents are clueless as to who will find solutions to their problems. They are unhappy with the gram panchayat as it has not taken measures to solve their problems,” he added.
