The accused are Mohammad Rizwan, 22, of Kudroli and Rahul Gatti, 20, of Dongerkeri in the city. The drivers abandoned the trucks and fled the scene when personnel from the Kavoor police station directed them to stop for inspection of their permit.

The victim, hailing from Bagalkot district, was working at a stone quarry in Bantwal taluk for the past 2 years, where the accused worked as an earth excavator machine operator, superintendent of police B M Laxmi Prasad, stated in a communique here.Sujith, for the past eight months, was allegedly exploiting the victim against her will. When the victim approached Sujith to honour his promise of marriage, he declined to do so, on the grounds that she belonged to a lower caste, and that he would prefer to go to jail on this count. Based on her complaint, a case under sections 417 and 316 of IPC and sections 3(1)(2), 3(2) of SC/ST Act have been registered in Bantwal Town police station in this regard. The drivers abandoned the trucks and fled the scene when personnel from the Kavoor police station directed them to stop for inspection of their permit. Police handed over the seized trucks to the deputy director, department of mines and geology for further action. The value of the sand seized has been estimated at Rs 90,000, Uma Prashanth noted.Gold seizedPersonnel of Customs at Mangaluru International airport (MIA) seized foreign origin gold of 24 karat purity weighing 232gms from a passenger who arrived from Dubai on board a SpiceJet Flight on February 13. The value of the gold seized is Rs 7.70 lakh and was concealed as six rhodium coated buttons stitched onto denim jacket kept in check the luggage by the passenger, a Tweet by Mangaluru Customs authorities stated.
