Arathi’s chances are high, if the Congress manages to get back the seat, as she is probably the only woman aspirant.Speaking to TOI, she said, “I am supposed to get a Congress ticket from Udupi Chikkamagaluru LS constituency, but in the seat sharing pact, the constituency has gone to JD(S). We have to see what happens. The coalition partners might consider giving the seat back to Congress. Among the women candidates, I am probably the only one shortlisted,” she said.Meanwhile, sources say that Arathi was approached by a few leaders to contest as a JD (S) candidate. The CEC meeting is expected to be held on Tuesday, said Arathi who has been with the Embassy in Washington for 15 years, adviser to the NRI ministry in Delhi for two years, deputy chairman, NRI Forum, Karnataka and runs a charity foundation- Krishna Foundation.Arathi said that Congress workers have been urging party leaders to retain the seat in the name of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. JD(S) support is restricted to a few areas in Chikkamagaluru unlike the Congress that has a well organised network in Udupi and Chikkamagaluru. “Even if the coalition partners decide to field Pramod Madhwaraj, I will continue working for the party.”‘Alliance should be like milk and honey’Former Minister Pramod Madhwaraj may be the JD(S) candidate from the Udupi-Chikkamagaluru constituency. When asked about the party he would be representing, he said, “If Congress president Rahul Gandhi has given this seat to JD(S), what will be on the EVMs? I don’t want the Congress and JD(S) to be like water and oil. I want both the parties to be like milk and honey. If the seat comes back to the Congress I will be the happiest person. We should talk of what has been decided. This is a case of consensus,” he said.
