Mangalore University grants affiliation to 13 new colleges for 2019-20

Mangaluru: The academic council of Mangalore University , at its fourth general meeting for the academic year 2018-19, on Tuesday, granted affiliation to 13 new colleges. With 14 colleges not applying for affiliation, the university now has 209 colleges in the districts of Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Kodagu. These include 138 private colleges, 37 government colleges, 11 permanently affiliated and five constituent and autonomous colleges, each.The university had set up 36 local inspection committees (LICs) to inspect infrastructure facilities in each of these 209 colleges for renewal and extension of affiliation, including granting new affiliation which it recommended in case of 13 colleges. Experimentation has also been tried in BCom with add on courses such as logistics and supply chain management to go with aviation and hospitality management offered earlier. The university, at the start of academic year 2018-19, had 210 colleges, and has to contend with 209 colleges in the forthcoming academic year.The new colleges have sought to offer unique courses such as diploma in radiotherapy technology, niche course such as BSc (hospitality science), UGC recognised professional add on course in aviation and hospitality science to traditional BA, BASALP, BSc and BCom courses as well.
