DK dist police rescue 20 stolen cattle, arrest two

Mangaluru: The Dakshina Kannada district police on Thursday rescued 20 cattle while they were being illegally transported to a slaughterhouse . The police seized the vehicle and rescued all the animals. The truck and the animals are valued at Rs 4.55 lakh.After the vehicle was intercepted, one of the accused named Ismail tried to flee from the spot. Besides arresting the other accused — Mohammed Sameer — police shifted the injured accused to a hospital.The duo has been booked under various sections of Karnataka Prevention of Cow Slaughter and Cattle Preservation Act (1964) and Prevention of Cruelty Animal Act (1960). He lost his balance and had a fall.

One of the accused, who tried giving the police the slip, had a fall and injured himself, after which police admitted him to a hospital.Acting on a tip-off that the animals were transported in a truck without relevant documents, sleuths from Uppinangadi police station intercepted the vehicle at Nekkiladi Junction on Thursday morning, police said on Friday.According to police, the animals were tied down and bundled in the truck to be transported en masse for slaughter. The police seized the vehicle and rescued all the animals.
