Government employees to stage dharna today

Members of the district unit of Karnataka State Government Employees Association staging a dharna at the District Police Office in Udupi on Monday. The members of the association would stage a day’s strike in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s office on Tuesday. Both of them along with Village Accountant Kanthraj had conducted a surprise raid on an illegal sand extraction unit past midnight. Balakrishna, president of the district unit of the association Subramanya Sherigar said that both Deputy Commissioner Priyanka Mary Francis and Assistant Commissioner Shilpa Nag had earned a good name for providing efficient administration. But members of the sand mafia had tried to assault and made an attempt on their lives.

In a memorandum submitted to Superintendent of Police K.T. Balakrishna, president of the district unit of the association Subramanya Sherigar said that both Deputy Commissioner Priyanka Mary Francis and Assistant Commissioner Shilpa Nag had earned a good name for providing efficient administration. Both of them along with Village Accountant Kanthraj had conducted a surprise raid on an illegal sand extraction unit past midnight. But members of the sand mafia had tried to assault and made an attempt on their lives. This was unfortunate. The association condemned the incident. The police should take stern legal action against those involved in the attempt to murder. The members of the association would stage a day’s strike in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s office on Tuesday. If the police failed to take stern action and arrest all those behind the incident, the association would intensify its agitation, he said.
