Ananth Kumar reiterates offer to set up plastic park in Dakshina Kannada

MANGALURU: Ministry of chemicals and fertilisers will sanction a plastic park for Dakshina Kannada district. "Setting up a plastic park will give strong impetus to plastic production in the state," he said adding MPRL will be ideal foil for this project. Mangaluru which incidentally has the state's only oil refinery in Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd (MRPL) and the refinery will be ideally suited to take forward this project, noted minister H N Ananth Kumar. "We will await fine print of the proposal and how it pans out with various stakeholders," he said. The ministry under the scheme will provide one time grant in to aid SPV that state government or any of its agencies such as State Industrial Development Corporation forms.

Mangaluru which incidentally has the state's only oil refinery in Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd (MRPL) and the refinery will be ideally suited to take forward this project, noted minister H N Ananth Kumar. The project will ideally provide employment to nearly 30,000 youths in this part of the state, he said.Reiterating this offer made during his last visit, the minister who inaugurated Pradhan Mantri Jan Aushadi Centres in the district exhorted Dakshina Kannada MP Nalin Kumar Kateel to bring the state government on board this offer. "You have to wake up this (state) government that is in a slumber and ensure that the state in general and Dakshina Kannada in particular benefits from a plastic park coming up in its own backyard," the minister advised the MP.Noting that entire world is now dependent on items made of plastic, Ananth Kumar rued that Karnataka sourced most of its various plastic items either from Gujarat or Maharashtra . "Setting up a plastic park will give strong impetus to plastic production in the state," he said adding MPRL will be ideal foil for this project. The ministry has thus far cleared more than 10 plastic parks across the country to promote plastic manufacturing under the plastic park scheme.H Kumar, managing director, MRPL, who was present, told STOI that the ONGC subsidiary has the necessary infrastructure and raw material needed to make the minister's proposal in to a reality.
