‘Centre keen on supporting State in opening generic drug stores’

Talking to presspersons after opening five Jan Aushadhi Generic Drug stores here on Saturday, Mr. Ananth Kumar said that State Health Minister Ramesh Kumar has shown interest in having generic drug stores under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Aushadhi Yojana. Mr. Ananth Kumar said an MoU has already been signed with the State government and these generic drug stores will be operational in the next few weeks. The Union government is keen to support the State government in opening more generic drug stores that will help people in getting drugs at an affordable cost, Union Minister for Chemicals and Fertilizers Ananth Kumar has said. Earlier in his speech at the programme to launch the Jan Aushadi Generic Drug stores, Mr. Ananth Kumar said the Union government was proposing a law to make it mandatory for doctors to prescribe generic drugs. Union Minister of State for Drinking Water and Sanitation Ramesh Jigajinagi also spoke.

Mr. Ramesh Kumar has proposed opening 200 Jan Aushadhi centres in the State. Mr. Ananth Kumar said an MoU has already been signed with the State government and these generic drug stores will be operational in the next few weeks. Earlier in his speech at the programme to launch the Jan Aushadi Generic Drug stores, Mr. Ananth Kumar said the Union government was proposing a law to make it mandatory for doctors to prescribe generic drugs. The pharmacy stores will be asked to provide generic drugs if branded drugs are prescribed by doctors. Mr. Ananth Kumar said he was in talks with the Medical Council of India and has also written in this regard to Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda. Union Minister of State for Drinking Water and Sanitation Ramesh Jigajinagi also spoke. Nalin Kumar Kateel, MP, was present.
