more-in A suggestion to make staff of Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) to wear uniforms was shot down by Mayor Kavita Sanil. During her first phone-in programme here on Tuesday, a caller Suprith Kumar from Urwa Stores, who gave the suggestion, said that it will help identify the employees of the civic body easily as many people visited its offices. Uniforms would help guide people in approaching the personnel. The caller said that his intention was also to see that the middlemen were kept away from the corporation offices. Sidelining the suggestion, the Mayor later told reporters that it [suggestion] cannot become a reality. ‘Traffic signal needed’ Another caller said that there was an urgent need for a traffic signal at Sharavu Mahaganapathi Temple Junction on the K.S. Rao Road. The Mayor said that it would be discussed in the monthly traffic meeting with the police scheduled on May 26. Wilfred from Bhavishya Nagar near Pilikula said that owners of four sites in the ara have left their sites vacant without building any compound walls. As grass and other weed have developed in them, it has become the abode of snakes which also visited nearby homes. Owners of those sites should be made to keep their plots clean. A caller from near Vamanjoor alleged that a house has been built by encroaching upon a storm-water drain near the vehicle inspection track of the Transport Department. Responding to it, the Mayor promised to send the officials concerned to the spot for an inspection. Callers from Kottara Chowki and Kulashekara said that silt from storm-water drains in those areas have not been removed even as monsoon is set to begin. A citizen from Court Ward said that his house was not getting water properly as there was low pressure in the supply. A caller pointed out that an old mud house near Bhavanti Street could fall on pedestrians at any time during the rainy season. If it happened so, it would be very dangerous if children were walking nearby.
