Three more assaults reported in Dakshina Kannada

Irked by Austin’s conduct, the car driver and three others in it came out of their vehicle and assaulted Austin. Three more assault incidents were reported in Dakshina Kannada on Tuesday. The van driver rained blows on him and left the place after robbing Rehman of ? 10,000 in cash. This resulted in a heated exchange of words between Rehman and the van driver.

In the first incident at Uppinangady, Abdul Rehman (35), a driver of a mini lorry transporting cooking gas, was assaulted and robbed of ? 10,000 in cash in the morning. The police said that Abdul Rehman, a resident of Mata village, left for work at 5.30 a.m. Near Medarabettu, Rehman stopped his vehicle as a van came too close to his. This resulted in a heated exchange of words between Rehman and the van driver. The latter damaged the wind-shield of the mini lorry and reportedly dragged Rehman out of the vehicle. The van driver rained blows on him and left the place after robbing Rehman of ? 10,000 in cash. The injured Rehman has been admitted to a private hospital. The Uppinangady police have registered a case of robbery and assault. In the second incident near Ullal in the noon, van driver Austin (27) was assaulted reportedly by those in a car at Azad Nagar in Mastikatte as the former did not give way for the car driver to overtake. The Ullal police said that Austin was carrying some material to a place in Mastikatte in his van and a car was following it. At a point, the car driver honked seeking way to overtake. Austin could not give way as there was another vehicle in front of his. He, therefore, indicated to the car driver to slow down. Irked by Austin’s conduct, the car driver and three others in it came out of their vehicle and assaulted Austin. One of them attacked Austin with a sharp weapon causing injury in his right hand. The police said that a case of assault has been registered. They have launched a search for the assailants. In the third incident reported in the Bajpe police limits on Monday night, Aboobacker Siddiq (32), a lorry helper, was reportedly assaulted by a few persons near Yedapadavu Junction. In a complaint to the Bajpe police, Siddiq said that two motorcycle-borne men hit him while he was walking past the Vivekananda School at Yedapadavu Junction around 7.30 p.m. The assailants quickly left the place. Siddiq was admitted to a private hospital, the police said. The police said that they have made inquiries and also checked the footage of closed circuit television cameras in the area and have found no instances of any assault near Yedapadavu Junction. The police inquired the lorry driver who reported that he dropped Siddiq 5 km ahead of Yedapadavu Junction. The police said that they are also making inquiries about the assault at the place where Siddiq got off the lorry.
