Two arrested in Sharath Madivala murder case

MANGALURU: Dakshina Kannada district police have finally cracked the high profile July 4 murder of RSS member Sharath Madivala with the arrest of two persons including a PFI leader, on Tuesday. "The investigation is on to nab around 4-5 more members who are involved in the case and we have vital clues about them. "This was intricate crime and all officers and men have toiled day and night for investigation. There is a concerted campaign by 'anti-national elements' to target workers of Hindu chauvinist organisations and police must deal with such elements firmly, he noted. Four to five persons connected with the case are still at large and will be arrested soon, said P Harishekaran, IGP (Western Range).Harishekaran named those arrested as Abdul Shafi, 36, Indira Nagar House , Haladi, Sajipa Munnur and Khaleelulla , 30, Galipura village, Chamarajnagara.

Four to five persons connected with the case are still at large and will be arrested soon, said P Harishekaran, IGP (Western Range).Harishekaran named those arrested as Abdul Shafi, 36, Indira Nagar House , Haladi, Sajipa Munnur and Khaleelulla , 30, Galipura village, Chamarajnagara. The latter is leader of Popular Front of India unit in Chamarajanagar.Sharath, 28, resident of Sajipa in Bantwal taluk, attacked by unidentified miscreants, succumbed to injuries three days later. A stone pelting incident was reported during his funeral procession and several leaders of right-wing organisation and others were arrested.Harishekaran said the duo were picked up from their respective native places and they have been booked for conspiracy and harbouring. "The investigation is on to nab around 4-5 more members who are involved in the case and we have vital clues about them. The duo had logistical help to assailants," he said adding they have been produced before the court and sent to judicial custody.As many as 50 people have been questioned in the sensational murder, which occured at the height of communal unrest in Bantwal taluk. When asked about motive behind crime, Harishekaran said it is premature to comment as the case is under investigation.A teams consisting of more than 30 police personnel which included senior police officials were constituted soon after the incident. "This was intricate crime and all officers and men have toiled day and night for investigation. So it took several days to arrest right person and it is done in most professional way," added Harishekaran.Police as part of the investigation have gone to various places such as Udupi, Hassan, Chikkamagaluru, Kodagu, Bengaluru, Kerala and Tamil Nadu . They have also visited jails at Belagavi, Mangaluru, Karwar and Mysuru to make several observations.Harishekaran rewarded the police team involved in the investigation with cash award of Rs 25,000.Dakshina Kannada MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, while lauding the arrests carried out by DK police, has urged the police to bring all the accused to book.
