Court rejects bail plea in Kalai case

An Additional District and Sessions Court in Mangaluru on Thursday rejected bail applications by eight of the nine accused persons arrested in connection with the murder of SDPI office-bearer Mohammed Ashraf Kalai. VI Additional District and Sessions Judge D.T. Puttarangaswamy passed the orders on the applications of Bharat Raj, Divyaraj Shetty, Pavan Kumar, Shivaprasad, Rajit, Santosh, Abhin Rai and Pradeep. The judge, however, allowed the application of Ratish Kumar, who had no history of involvement in criminal acts. Mohammed Ashraf Kalai was hacked to death on June 21 at Benjanapadavu.
