Mr. Khader said with successful operation of Indira Canteens in Bengaluru the State Cabinet approved setting up these canteens in every taluk and city municipality. As many as 10 Indira Canteens, including five in Mangaluru, will come up in Dakshina Kannada after two months, said Food and Civil Supplies Minister U.T. Asked about objections to acquisition of land for canteens in Bengaluru, Mr. Khader claimed that it was raised by councillors who did not want the canteens to come up in their areas. Talking to presspersons, Mr. Khader said Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has agreed to have one Indira Canteen in his Mangaluru Assembly constituency (erstwhile Ullal) as it has a population of 50,000. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah wants these canteens to start operation by January.
