The baby died while being brought to Hassan from Tiptur after he developed respiratory problems. The parents, Nadim and Farhana, are from Siddaiah Nagar here. The baby, which was in Farhana’s home town Tiptur, developed breathing problem on Monday. Ms. Farhana brought the baby to Hassan and went in search of private nursing homes. As private medical establishments were closed on that day in support of the strike opposing amendment to the KPME Act, she took the baby to the Hassan Institute of Medical Sciences. She returned to Tiptur by evening, according to her relatives. The baby developed complications on Monday night, forcing Ms. Farhana to take the baby back to Hassan on Tuesday morning. The baby, however, died even before they could reach Hassan. “The baby did not get proper care even after he was brought to Hassan on Monday, when private hospitals were closed,” said a relative, Mohammed Asif. When the issue was brought to the notice of Deputy Commissioner Rohini Sindhuri and HIMS director B.C. Ravi Kumar at a press conference, they said they would inquire if the parents had approached the government hospital for treatment.
