18-year-old Meerut archer to represent India at World School Games

Meerut: It was four years ago that 18-year-old Vaibhav Duhan saw sportspersons practice archery at Meerut’s Kailash Prakash Stadium. Although Duhan was there to play badminton, he took a fancy to archery and decided to give it a try. He practices the sport for two hours in the morning and three to four hours in the evening. Duhan’s mother is a teacher and his father works at a sugar mill in Amroha. That is when I got fascinated by the sport and planned to pursue it.

Meerut: It was four years ago that 18-year-old Vaibhav Duhan saw sportspersons practice archery at Meerut’s Kailash Prakash Stadium. Although Duhan was there to play badminton, he took a fancy to archery and decided to give it a try. Now, thanks to his hard work, the Meerut boy has made it to a three-member team that will represent India in archery at the World School Games in Bangkok this year.Duhan’s track record includes winning a gold medal for archery at the DAV National Games in Ambala and clinching another gold at the tournament organized by the School Games Federation of India, which paved the way for his qualification for the World School Games, organized by International School Sport Federation.Talking to TOI, Duhan said, “I used to play badminton at Kailash Prakash Stadium, where I would see sportspersons take part in archery. That is when I got fascinated by the sport and planned to pursue it. I found myself performing well in the sport and started to practice it properly under my coach Anuj Sharma.”“Vaibhav is a bright student and has been very dedicated towards his training for archery. He practices the sport for two hours in the morning and three to four hours in the evening. He clinched a gold medal in UP Archery State Championship (Junior Category) and will be playing in National Archery Championship too, which will most probably take place in March,” said Anuj Sharma, Vaibhav’s coach. Duhan’s mother is a teacher and his father works at a sugar mill in Amroha.
