Meerut: A 14-year-old girl was compelled to leave school and miss her high school board exams because of a youth who not only stalked her for the last three months but threatened to disfigure her face with acid if she did not accept his “friendship proposal".On Monday, the resident of Mawana along with her father reached the SSP’s office to complain that police, despite a complaint against the erring youth under non-bailable sections, have failed to act. They said that relatives of the youth were threatening the girl to withdraw her complaint or face consequences.The girl’s father told TOI, “This 18-year-old youth who happens to be studying in the same school as my daughter has been harassing her for the past three months. A few days ago, he forcibly put a mobile phone into my daughter’s bag while she was on her way to school and asked her to speak to him daily."Narrating her ordeal, the girl said, “I gave that phone to my father who submitted the same at the police station, but it took almost three days for the police to file an FIR. We are now scared. I am being pressured to withdraw the police complaint. I may be killed if police don’t take immediate action against the culprits. My brother who is in class VII is also being threatened. ”Incidentally, a report was filed on February 13 at Mawana police station under IPC section 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, among others.
