Meerut to get its first Traffic Management Centre, with 141 cameras at 35 spots

The entire set up of the Traffic Management Centre has been connected via optical fibre and will operate with an internet speed of 16mbps.“There are already 70 cameras at 25 spots in Meerut. The 141 new cameras will add to it and give us a vast range of video feed from the entire city. So, the cameras are being set up by them,” said SP traffic Sanjeev Bajpai. Meerut: In a first, a Traffic Management Centre will come up in Meerut with an aim to keep a tab on the city’s traffic and send police force to areas as and when required.The centre, inside Police Lines, will be equipped with 12 LED TVs on a video wall, which will show live video feed of traffic situation at 35 spots across the city from 141 cameras, with the help of Google maps. Each spot will have four cameras in place, one of which will be a Press to Zoom (PTZ) one.

Each spot will have four cameras in place, one of which will be a Press to Zoom (PTZ) one. All the cameras, which are yet to be set up, will be equipped with night vision. One extra camera will also be installed at one of the spots.“An amount of Rs 15 lakh, provided by the Meerut Development Authority (MDA) for the improvement of traffic condition in the city, is being spent on the control room. Also, the UP government has a tie-up with Reliance Jio, under which the latter would have to set up cameras in the vicinity of their towers. So, the cameras are being set up by them,” said SP traffic Sanjeev Bajpai.
