Family in shock, villagers say they have lost their ‘favourite son’

Residents of Alampuri village in Bijnor are in shock. They can’t believe that their “favourite son”, BJP MLA from Noorpur, Lokendra Singh Chauhan, is no more. Chauhan was born in a farmer family here and attended a primary school in the village, before moving to a bigger city for further education.On Wednesday, soon after the news of his untimely demise in a road accident was flashed on TV channels, local villagers rushed to his native house to find out whether it was true. “Today I have lost everything. He was my youngest son. He shared everything with me. He developed an interest in politics at a very early age and worked very hard to make a name for himself. We were all so proud of him,” the MLA’s grieving father, Mahesh Singh told TOI.“Lokendra was a shining star. He was a devoted and committed worker of the BJP. His only ambition was to serve the people of his constituency. It is a big loss for all of us,” said CP Singh, the MLA’s elder brother.Lokendra is survived by his wife and two sons — Tejasva Singh (12) and Ojasva Singh (8). While Tejasva studies in Dehradun, Ojasva is enrolled in a school in Mussoorie. BJP Bijnor district president Rajeev Sisodia said that the Noorpur legislator was like a pillar. “We will always miss him. His contribution to the party is unmatched. He was a people’s person and always thought about their wellbeing.”Local BJP leader Kranti Kumar, who was close to Lokendra, said, “Chief minister Yogi Adityanath and many other senior leaders in the party trusted him. He was very cheerful and positive by nature. He will be missed.”Lokendra Chauhan lost his life in a road accident while he was on his way to Lucknow to attend the UP investors’ meet in the early hours of Wednesday.
