Delhi-based gang of car thieves busted in M'nagar, 5 stolen vehicles recovered

Muzaffarnagar: A Delhi-based gang, which used to steal cars from the national capital only to sell them at throwaway prices in western Uttar Pradesh districts, was on Thursday busted in Muzaffarnagar by police, which also seized five stolen vehicles. They were also involved in smuggling of illegal weapons, policemen posted at New Mandi station said.A member of the gang, Asif Ahmed, was arrested by police, while Amit Kumar, a Delhi resident, escaped. Superintendent of police (SP) Omveer Singh said that a team has been sent to Delhi to nab Amit.“Owners of three cars have been traced. We are now trying to find out owners of the remaining two vehicles. We sold cars in between Rs 60,000 to Rs 80, 000,” Asif told media.On January 16, district police had busted a gang and seized 24 motorcycles stolen from Delhi.They were also meant to be sold in west UP districts.

While one of the members of the inter-state gang was arrested, another managed to give a slip to police.District police said that the accused have been involved in scores of car theft in Delhi and NCR. They were also involved in smuggling of illegal weapons, policemen posted at New Mandi station said.A member of the gang, Asif Ahmed, was arrested by police, while Amit Kumar, a Delhi resident, escaped. Superintendent of police (SP) Omveer Singh said that a team has been sent to Delhi to nab Amit.“Owners of three cars have been traced. We are now trying to find out owners of the remaining two vehicles. All the cars were picked up from Delhi and we have informed police of the neighbouring state also about it,” the SP said.The accused, Asif, was presented before media on Thursday.“We used to sell cars in western Uttar Pradesh by using fake papers. We sold cars in between Rs 60,000 to Rs 80, 000,” Asif told media.On January 16, district police had busted a gang and seized 24 motorcycles stolen from Delhi.They were also meant to be sold in west UP districts.
