Bijnor: A gang of six thieves attired in shorts and vest struck at as many as five houses in Amroha’s Adampur town on the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday and held the residents hostage before decamping with jewellery. They thrashed those who resisted. The spate of robberies went on for five hours.All the victims filed a complaint at Adampur police station. Police assessed the cost of jewellery stolen at Rs 2 lakh.According to police, the thieves first targeted Bundu Khan’s house located on the outskirts of the city. Bundu had gone to irrigate their fields, leaving his wife Sakeena and their daughter-in-law Mehrunisha at home.At about 11 pm, six thieves barged into the house, held Sakeena hostage and robbed her of her gold jewellery. When Mehrunisha heard voices, she locked herself in a room. But the thieves broke open the door open and entered the room. They robbed her jewellery worth Rs 1 lakh.When the two woman tried to resist the thieves, they beat them up and fled. A neighbour came to their aid on hearing their cries.Later, thieves targeted the house of Prakash, thrashed him, locked up his family in a room before fleeing with his wife’s jewellery. Then, they entered Biharilaal’s house in the neighbourhood and followed same routine. Next, they struck at Dharampal’s house and then Shriram’s house. They robbed all the inmates of their jewellery and beat them up.Police said most of the victims were sleeping when the thieves entered their houses.Circle officer of Hasanpur area Ajay Kumar claimed two houses had been targeted by three thieves. A search is on to nab the culprits.
