Meerut: Tigmanshu Dhulia, actor in Gangs of Wasseypur series and director of movies such as Paan Singh Tomar and Bullet Raja, has shot a short film for UP Police on a constable who chose to help an injured man over returning home to his dead daughter. Public relations officer (PRO) at the director general of police (DGP) office, Rahul Srivastava, has interestingly assumed the role of scriptwriter for the movie named ‘On Duty’. It also got a grand reception on Monday at an event attended by chief minister Yogi Adityanath in Lucknow to celebrate the first anniversary of BJP rule in the state.As reported by TOI on March 1, head constable Bhupendra Tomar, 57, and his team was on patrol duty aboard an Uttar Pradesh 100 (quick response) vehicle in Saharanpur district on February 23 when he was informed of a man who had been stabbed and injured. On his way to the spot, he got another call informing about the death of his 27-year-old daughter, Jyoti. Despite the rest of his team insisting that he head home, Bhupendra decided to put his duty ahead of his personal tragedy.‘Taare Zameen Par’ fame actor Vipin Sharma plays Tomar’s character in the 5.17 minute film which is produced by the public relations office, DGP headquarters in Lucknow.Speaking to TOI, scriptwriter Srivastava said, “Constable Tomar was felicitated by DGP O P Singh for his exemplary response. We decided to convert the incident into a short film. It was shot on a single day on Saturday. We requested Dhulia to make the film for us. It will be uploaded on social media, including UP Police’s Twitter handle.”Dhulia, a national award winning film director, said, “When I heard about the incident, I was literally moved and decided to make the movie. We need to tell heroic stories about policemen on duty. It was a difficult task but we shot the entire film in a few hours’ time and worked overnight in the post-production phase.”“I never imagined that a film about my life will be made. The circumstances that led to this film is tragic. I lost my daughter but was able to save another person. I did what I thought was best in that situation – to save a dying man. I got a call from the DGP office a few days ago and we discussed the incident in details,” said Tomar.
