Meerut: In a shocking incident, a minor Dalit girl who became pregnant following her gangrape was forced by a local panchayat in Kharkhauda area of Meerut to settle the case in exchange of Rs 3 lakh. A case under sections 376D (gang-rape) 313 (causing miscarriage without woman’s consent) and relevant sections of POCSO and SC/ST Act was lodged. Police finally took cognizance of the crime on Friday and lodged an FIR at Kharkhauda police station.“We had learnt about settlement in a gangrape case in a panchayat. A case has been lodged and teams have been formed to nab the accused,” Rajesh Kumar, superintendent of police (rural), said.According to the survivor’s father, his 16-year-old daughter was gang-raped three months ago by two youths – Pawan and Vipin –hailing from upper caste community in the neighbouring village.The accused had also filmed the act and threatened her of dire consequences if she revealed about the incident to her family or approached police.The family came to know about the incident recently when she developed medical complication after which the family learnt about her miscarriage.According to police, the girl was not only gang-raped but was also forced to abort after she became pregnant.
