Turkmenistan woman arrested from hotel for staying on after visa expiry

Meerut: A Turkmenistan national was arrested and another was detained following a late night raid on a city hotel here on Friday.One woman was arrested after the local intelligence unit claimed that her visa had expired and was eventually booked under violation of Foreigners Act.According to the police, the two women from Turkmenistan were detained on Friday after a the local police was tipped-off about a sex racket being run at a city-based hotel in Pallavpuram area. There was no entry in the register as well. The hotel staff failed to produce mandatory documents, including licences, following which we have decided to seal the hotel," the SP said.In an earlier crackdown by the local police following complaints of city hotels patronising illicit activities, four hotels were sealed in Sadar Bazar area after police raided them and detained 42 couples last month.

The other foreign national was released on Saturday after a brief interrogation by the local police.Meanwhile, the police have filed a case of cheating and violation of Sarai Act against five people, including the owner of the hotel, after its staff failed to produce necessary licences. “There was no record or identification proof of the customers staying in the hotel.
