6 hurt in clashes over alleged cow slaughter

Bijnor: Six people were injured after an alleged incident of cow slaughter sparked off clashes between two minority communities in Nehtaur town of the district on Monday. We did not find evidence of illegal cow slaughter during raids at several places.” A resident of Nejo Saray, who did not wish to be named, said, “A police complaint was recently filed against some people of a minority community for allegedly indulging in cow slaughter. The clashes took place after members of one minority community accused the other of falsely implicating them in a case of cow slaughter.The incident was reported from Nejo Saray locality in Nehtaur town of the district. On Sunday, a police team had conducted raids in a few houses of the village but failed to find evidence of illegal slaughter.

A resident of Nejo Saray, who did not wish to be named, said, “A police complaint was recently filed against some people of a minority community for allegedly indulging in cow slaughter. On Sunday, a police team had conducted raids in a few houses of the village but failed to find evidence of illegal slaughter. Some animal body parts were later found floating in a pond near the locality.”According to sources, word had soon spread about the alleged complaint made by a member of one community against several others belonging to the other group. On Monday, people from both factions clashed, hurled abuses and attacked each other with knives. The six injured in the incident were later rushed to a local government hospital. Police rushed to the spot to bring the situation under control. Cops detained four people from both communities.Chandra Kiran Yadav, station house officer (SHO) of Nehtaur police station, said, “A case has been filed against 12 people. We did not find evidence of illegal cow slaughter during raids at several places.”
