Sugar mill manager shoots himself dead, leaves behind note blaming retired IAS brother-in-law

He left behind a suicide note blaming his brother-in-law, a retired IAS officer, for pushing him to take the extreme step. The note said that he was being pressured to convert Rs10 crore of demonetised currency.“During demonetisation, my brother-in-law had given me money for exchange. I failed to return the entire amount as several middlemen refused to return the money. My brother-in-law was pressuring me and my family and was demanding his money back. Meerut: Jan Vijay Singh, who worked as manager at a sugar mill in Shamli, ended his life on Wednesday evening by shooting himself dead with his licensed revolver at his residence in Shamli’s Badhaiv village.

He left behind a suicide note blaming his brother-in-law, a retired IAS officer, for pushing him to take the extreme step. The note said that he was being pressured to convert Rs10 crore of demonetised currency.“During demonetisation, my brother-in-law had given me money for exchange. I failed to return the entire amount as several middlemen refused to return the money. My brother-in-law was pressuring me and my family and was demanding his money back. This forced me into depression,” read the suicide note.Towards the end of his note, the deceased talks about an amount of Rs10 crore, which was allegedly given to him by his relative. He says that he managed to return Rs 50 lakh after converting it.Following a complaint from the deceased’s wife, Anju Singh, An FIR under IPC sections 306 (abetment of suicide) and 506 (criminal intimidation) has been lodged against the retired IAS officer, who currently lives in Ghaziabad, at Adarshmandi police station.“Based on the complaint and the suicide note, an FIR has been lodged against the former bureaucrat. The note has been sent for examination to verify the deceased’s handwriting and other evidences from the spot have been collected for forensic testing,” Shamli SP Dinesh Kumar said.
