Meerut: Sunil Rathi , the prime accused in the murder of dreaded don Prem Prakash alias Munna Bajrangi, will soon be shifted to Fatehgarh Central jail in Farrukhabad district, additional director general (jails) Chandra Prakash told TOI.According to UP police, Rathi, a west UP-based gangster , killed Bajrangi on July 9 when the eastern UP’s dreaded mafia don was given a temporary stay at Baghpat jail for his appearance in court in an extortion case.According to Prakash, “Earlier, Lucknow was shortlisted. However, by Friday afternoon, the decision was finalized on Fatehgarh for security reasons.”Police and jail administrations are taking extra precautions for Rathi’s security as the possibility of "revenge killing" cannot be ruled out.According to sources, since many of Bajrangi gang members are lodged in Lucknow jail, it might have been a bit risky to keep Rathi there.“We have received the government order in this regard and proceedings of shifting will begin from Saturday,” Prakash said.Rathi, 41, emerged as the new sensation in the crime-infested western UP after he allegedly shot dead Munna Bajrangi inside Baghpat jail on Monday.According to police sources, Rathi, a resident of Tikri village in Baghpat, got into the world of crime after his father and brother were gunned down in 1998 due to political rivalry. Soon afterwards, his mother took over the mantle of politics while Sunil finished his studies in Meerut but got into extortion primarily focusing on Roorkee and the rest of Uttarakhand.At the age of 21, he already had a murder-cum-loot case registered against him. A police officer who did not wish to be named said, “Rathi specifically targeted doctors and businessmen of Haridwar and Roorkee. In June 2000, when Rathi’s mother Rajbala Chaudhary was contesting nagar panchayat elections, Rathi killed the rival candidate Mehak Singh and his brother Mohkam Singh.Two months later in August, Rathi killed another three persons who opposed him while he looted a jewellery showroom in Delhi. The same year in November, Rathi was arrested from Kankhal area of Haridwar and was lodged in Haridwar jail. He was brought to Baghpat jail in 2017 where he is serving life sentence for the double murder of Mehak Singh and his brother.However, his criminal activities continued from within jail. Rathi’s gang had allegedly shot dead deputy jailor Narendra Singh outside Roorkee jail in 2011. Then again in 2014, members of his rival gang Cheenu Pandit were attacked outside Roorkee jail.In 2014, his men helped his henchman Amit Bhura escape from police custody in Dehradun. Currently, his mother Rajbala is also in jail on extortion charges.
