Denied share in family property, man marches to local temple, tries to uproot Shiv Linga

The incident was reported from Muzaffarnagar’s Bhidahedi village under Bhopa police jurisdiction on Thursday late night. Identified as Dipak Yadav, 32, the man was taken into custody before he could damage Shiv Linga.Officials said that Yadav was heavily inebriated when he arrived at the temple. “Luckily, police were alerted on time and he was arrested. In a communally sensitive district like Muzaffarnagar, vandalizing temple property can lead to major unrest. The shrine’s priest has told us that Yadav was shouting at god for the injustice meted out to him,” said an official.Speaking with TOI, Brajesh Partap Singh, SHO of Bhopa police station, said, “We have arrested Dipak Yadav. He is a resident of Bhidahedi village. The priest has confirmed to us that Yadav was drunk when he arrived at the temple. He had an argument with his family over property and after they denied him a share, he stormed out of the house and marched towards the temple.”“This is not the first time when he has tried to vandalize temple property. He is a habitual offender and deserves to be punished. Thankfully, he was timely stopped by his brother and police were called,” Haridas, the shrine’s priest, said.By the time this report was filed, police had not registered an FIR in the matter.
