UP: Kendriya Vidyalaya painted saffron, school says no political agenda

MEERUT: After government buildings, state transport and toll plazas, Kendriya Vidyalaya Bulandshahr was the latest to be painted saffron . In January this year, the boundary wall of the Haj house in Lucknow, used by Muslims as a transit point on their way to Mecca pilgrimage, was painted saffron. After its choice of colour for renovation landed the school in controversy, authorities insisted people were unnecessarily making the issue political. The school administration, however, claimed that it was part of a renovation process and there was no political agenda behind it.The school, near Numaish grounds, was given a fresh coat of off-white, highlighted by thick stripes of saffron. "The colour combination was part of a renovation exercise under BALA (Building As Learning Aid) project, which aims at utilizing open spaces in an innovative manner.

There are several colour specifications for buildings and orange is one of them," principal SP Singh said.School authorities claimed that the colour scheme was just aimed at beautification and people were giving it a political colour because of their vested interests. “Under the BALA project, we have developed playgrounds and other open spaces in the school, which have varied colour combinations appealing to the eyes of children," Singh said.A month ago, a toll plaza on the Muzaffarnagar-Saharanpur highway was painted saffron on the lines of government offices and buses that got a saffron make-over after the Yogi government took over in March 2017. In January this year, the boundary wall of the Haj house in Lucknow, used by Muslims as a transit point on their way to Mecca pilgrimage, was painted saffron.
