With dropping enrollment rates, authorities instruct identification of out-of-school children

In this backdrop, a household survey should be conducted in rural and urban areas such that no student in the age bracket of 6-14 years remains out of school,” read the order issued by Vedpati Mishra, state project director.The out-of-school students are being identified so as to ensure 100% student enrolment and to see that no child in the age group of 6-14 years remains out of school.The worst performing district is Sitapur, which enrolled 3.83 lakh students in 2017-18, but settled at 3.53 lakh students in 2018-19, creating a gap of 30,108 students. Following Sitapur is Pratapgarh, which recorded a difference of 21,761 students. Bareilly recorded a difference of 19,788 students and Gonda recorded a gap of 19,489.“The identification of out-of-school students should be done by means of a household survey such that the drive continues till August 25 and no student is left out of school,” read Mishra’s order.In 2017-18, as many as 1.54 crore students were enrolled in primary and upper primary schools. However, in 2018-19 until August 1, just 1.51 crore students have been enrolled, seeing a dip of 3.20 lakh students in comparison with previous year.
