After closing files of 700 inactive or dead history sheeters, Muzaffarnagar cops now list existing criminals

As of now, 250 new history sheets have been opened and it is expected that the number will reach 500 shortly. In March, Muzaffarnagar district police had scrutinised more than 2,000 history sheets of criminals all over the district and found 700 were of either inactive or dead people.Muzaffarnagar senior superintendent of police (SSP) Anantdeo Tiwari has ordered every police station to collect data on criminals who are liable to be history-sheeters. Tiwari told TOI, “Around 250 new criminals have been listed as history sheeters and we are working on other instances. Those who have been booked so far are professional criminals and have several cases to their name.”In March, Tiwari had ordered all police stations to compile a list of history sheeters in their area and meet with them. “There are many good citizens who have history sheets but are lving peacefully in society and following the law. They often have a difficult time because they are history sheeters, Tiwari had said.Muzaffarnagar city superintendent of police Omveer Singh said, “History-sheeters whose names had been removed were divided into three categories. The first category is of those who are dead. The second category is of those who have done a crime by mistake and have no other criminal record. And the third category is of those who have not committed any crime in the last ten years.”
